The Number 20

A lot has been happening in the world of English football recently.

If you haven't heard yet then you've been sleeping under a rock. Manchester United closed the deal on their 20th English Premier League title. Social media went mental last night after Robin van Persie scored a hat trick winning the match against Aston Villa and the 2013 EPL title for Manchester United with 4 games to go to the end of the season.

Fans at Old Trafford kept singing Glory Glory Man United and other chants including Robin Van Persie's name as the game drew to a close and didn't leave till the last player left the pitch after doing their victory laps.

There were some interesting results over the weekend too. Tottenham Hotspurs came from the back to beat Manchester City 3-1 at the lane thus coming closer to securing their place in the European Champions League next season.

Liverpool literally chowed Chelsea in the second half when Luis Suarez took a bite out of Ivanovic. Many memes were spawned from that bite. The final score for that game was 2-2.

I don't know what was going through Suarez's mind when he went in for the chomp but one thing is for sure when Liverpool is hungry for a win they don't fright to take a bite!

Congrats to Manchester United on a well executed season. Proving to all haters(LFC) that they are the best team in the history of football in England.

The Red Devils in Durban

Fans of Manchester United Football Club will be treated to a double dose of their soccer heroes in Durban this week. There will be an open practice session where the public can view the players getting ready for their match against local team Amazulu F.C. the next day, 18 July 2012 at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.
Some of the players that will be coming down with the 19 times English Premier League Champions are Valencia(wearing the prestigious number 7), Anderson, Carrick, Powell, Kagawa, Scholes, Bebe, Petrucci, Berbatov, Chicharito, Macheda, Lindergaard, Amos, Johnstone, Ferdinand, Veseli, Vermijl, Wooton and Blackett.
Other players like Ryan Giggs and the da Silva twins, Fabio and Rafael, and Cleverly are on Olympic Games duty while Wayne Rooney is on an extended break. This will also be an opportunity to see Manchester United in their 2012-13 kit. Fans will be anxious to see their favourite EPL players score on Wednesday but hopefully Amazulu will put up a brave effort and give them a run for their money. Are you a football fan and which team do you support?

VIP Heineken Experience 2012

Last Saturday was the 2012 Champions League Final. Chelsea vs. Bayern Munich.

Bayern had an advantage because they were playing at their home ground in Munich. It's very rare for a final of this magnitude to be played at one of the finalists' home ground.

We couldn't make it to Munich to watch the final but Heineken together with Spiga D'Oro and Upstairs brought the final to us.

We were treated to a table for ten and free food and what seemed like an endless supply of Heineken. I was fortunate enough to win a competition held by Heineken.
My friends and I got there well before the match started. This gave us enough time to enjoy the great food Spiga never fails to deliver and get our thirsts quenched by Heineken.

The match itself produced a disappointing result as Chelsea had won by penalty shoot out. I always feel the team that played a better game were robbed when they lose through penalties at the end.

By Chelsea winning the 2012 Champions League Final means they don't have to qualify for the tournament next season and that means Tottenham Hotspurs don't qualify as they finished fourth in the Barclays Premier League.

But all in all we had fun. The atmosphere Upstairs was great and Spiga food is always delicious.

Looking forward to more events at this great little venue.

Horward Webb: The Worst Referee In The World

Is Howard Webb the worst ref in the world?

Recently Liverpool supporters have been hating on this man like he was the Devil incarnate. There's even an online petition by Twitter users asking the FA for him never to referee another Liverpool match! LMAO!

Here is the link if you don't believe me or if you want to add your voice to this ridiculous petition! http://twitition.com/g5iig

Surely the man that refereed the 2010 World Cup Final and last year's Champion's League final has to be the best there is or they would never have let him ref those 2 important matches!

So what does that tell you about Liverpool? According to their fans Liverpool Football Club has lost the last 5 matches refereed by Webb with 2 of them being against Manchester United! Therefore making Webb a puppet of Fergie or a hater of the Scousers!

I personally think he is a great referee! When I watch a match he is officiating I know there will be very few mistakes and no disaster decisions. Webb is a fair ref and seems to get the big decisions right according to Jose Mourinho, The Special One!

Apart from reffing the WC2010 final and CL final last year the Queen of England made him an honorary MBE.

Calm down Liverpool fans. You have a great team and a manager that finally seems to fit! You can finally say that it can be yours next year! With Dalglish leading the side and the likes of Suarez, Andy Carroll and Maxi Rodriquez making the magic happen LFC will be a strong contender for the Barclays Premier League and the FA Cup! One ref won't make a difference if you play good football!

I wouldn't want to mess with a ref that looks like Robocop anyway! Would you?

Post World Cup Depression

Well it's over. I was really preoccupied during the whole thing that I didn't really have a chance to enjoy it.

I managed to attend three matches though. Spain vs Switzerland, Nederlands vs Slovakia and the semi Spain vs Germany.

I had some issues to deal with and I couldn't take part in all the festivities that were happening all over Durban. So my dreams of meeting beautiful foreign chicks from Spain, Argentina, Brazil and other exotic places were not realised.

You could say that I'm immune to the phenomenon called Post World Cup Depression then!

Some interesting features in WC2010 were of course Paul the Octopus! Poor Germans. And Phillip! SABC had a catch phrase "Feel it! It is here!" which due to pronunciation by most locals evolved to "Phillip! It is here!". So Phillip was born.

Who could forget the green haired Zakumi which was supposed to be a leopard but looks more like a mangy lion but won the hearts of many South African kids including that of my 2 year old niece!

I was really looking forward to seeing a barrage of goals from the likes of Wayne Rooney, Lionel Messi, Fernando Torres etc. Christiano Ronaldo managed to score a really weak goal but wasn't entertaining enough.

I did back Spain from the beginning and wasn't disappointed by their performance.

Looks like if I really want to "Feel it!" again I will have to save a fortune for Brazil 2014!
