Deena wins Masterchef SA

South Africa has its first Masterchef. Deena Naidoo has these bragging rights in the bag when he was announced as Masterchef last night. After three grueling tasks the two finalists, Sue-Ann Allen and Deena Naidoo had to prepare, Deena came out tops. I became a fan of Deena's after he pulled off that near impossible chocolate mousse cake.
It was great watching the contestants grow and improve as better cooks. Deena took home R250 000.00 courtesy of Unilever's Robertson's Spices, a Hyundai Elantra 1.6 GLS and the cherry on the top being the Mondovino Restaurant. One of my twitter friends @Riona_Singh deduced a few weeks ago that Deena was the winner just by looking at his twitter handle and bio. His @deenamcsa handle was the only one from all the contestants that has mcsa (MasterchefSA) at the end of it. Some might argue that since Deena is an IT Specialist MCSA could mean Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate but now that he has won that theory is out! The other hint is that his Bio says Masterchef Finalist! This means he was part of the final two which as we saw was the case. Enough of the conspiracy theories. I'll leave that to Rio.
I'm really proud that the winner of the first South African Masterchef is a local boy. Born and brought up in Durban and such humble and mild mannered person. Congratulations Deena! All the best in your new adventure! Who was your favorite Masterchef SA contestant? Did you think the right person won?

The Red Devils in Durban

Fans of Manchester United Football Club will be treated to a double dose of their soccer heroes in Durban this week. There will be an open practice session where the public can view the players getting ready for their match against local team Amazulu F.C. the next day, 18 July 2012 at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.
Some of the players that will be coming down with the 19 times English Premier League Champions are Valencia(wearing the prestigious number 7), Anderson, Carrick, Powell, Kagawa, Scholes, Bebe, Petrucci, Berbatov, Chicharito, Macheda, Lindergaard, Amos, Johnstone, Ferdinand, Veseli, Vermijl, Wooton and Blackett.
Other players like Ryan Giggs and the da Silva twins, Fabio and Rafael, and Cleverly are on Olympic Games duty while Wayne Rooney is on an extended break. This will also be an opportunity to see Manchester United in their 2012-13 kit. Fans will be anxious to see their favourite EPL players score on Wednesday but hopefully Amazulu will put up a brave effort and give them a run for their money. Are you a football fan and which team do you support?
