Power Balance Bracelet Is A Scam! Shocker!

If you're still watching the Castle Test Series on the telly in South Africa you will notice that most of the players are still wearing the Power Balance Bracelet after the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has made the Power Balance manufacturers to retract the claim that the band improves performance through better balance, strength and flexibility!

I guess they haven't heard the news yet or they still have faith in the magic bracelet which has been eventually revealed as nothing more than a placebo! It looks like it didn't help the Proteas as India bowled them out on the 4th day of the second test match in the series.

The second match in Durban was pretty exciting with 18 wickets falling on the second day! India win by 87 runs as they level the series.

Audi R8s, Cricket Legends, New Records and Neighbor's Gates

Jacques Kallis is carless. The 35 year old Protea ploughed his white Audi R8 through the gate of a neighbor in Herschel Walk of all places(you'd expect Gibbs to pull of a stunt like that). Maybe he was celebrating too hard after his maiden double century in the first test match against India in the Castle Test Series. But authorities say that Kallis wasn't under the influence of anything. He just lost control of the car. Poor Carless and poor car. At least he has a styling new hairdo! Toupee or not toupee or maybe just plugs! The damage is said to have been in the excess of R200 000.

Although India lost to the Proteas The Little Master, Sachin Tendulkar, walked away with yet another record in his pocket. Tendulkar walked of the field on the final day, 111 not out marking his 50th test century of his illustrious career. Tendulkar lifted his lucky bat and thanked the heavens after acheiving this milestone and the whole of Centurion applauded this legend!

South Africa won the first test match by an innings and 25 runs. I can't wait for the next test match to begin in Durban. Tickets are sold out because fans want to watch the legends take to the field from both sides! Go Proteas!

Golf And Box Bar

Two Fridays ago I played my first round of Golf. I had the privilege of being invited to Northland Girls High's Annual Golf Day which was held at the prestigious Beachwood Country Club. This has to be one of Durban's most beautiful courses.

Before we could tee of we had the pleasure of getting neck and shoulder massages from the beautiful ladies of Camelot Spa. The course itself has pretty narrow fairways and for a beginner it was even more difficult.

The break at the 9th hole was very welcome as the day was humid and air-conditioning was like heaven! I had to change from my chinos to shorts and felt a hundred times better but got reprimanded by the grounds keepers for not having my shirt tucked in!

At the end of the day our four ball finished 8th, which was actually last, and we got a gift pack! I was dog tired and desperately needed a shower. Unfortunately I wasn't informed that we could shower at the country club after the game so I was the only stinky at the prize giving! But I enjoyed the day and would definitely do it again!

The next day I joined some friends at Box Bar in Umhlanga Rocks opposite the Beverly Hills Hotel to watch the Bok game against England. It was close but we manage to beat them in the end. So we haven't lost to England in the last 7 games! That's showing British Colonialism!

It was a beautiful day and Box Bar was buzzing with all types of characters from Bok supporters, the occasional English supporter and a whole lot of people in weird costumes! There were sailors, pirates, superheroes, a Joker, an Alan Garner lookalike (complete with baby!) and a Russell Brand! These guys were doing a pub crawl on bikes from Harvey Wallbanger's in Broadway to Umhlanga! They were wrecked by the time they reached Box Bar and Russell Brand bumped into me and spilled my beverage! He offered to give me a shoulder rub to pay me back! It was a funny site!

It was another good weekend in Durbs and although I'm looking forward to a great festive season it's going to be hectic with all the Gautengalengs invading our favorite spots for the next few weeks!

Fight Night!

What is it that fascinates us with violence, blood and pain? Last Thursday I had the privilege of sitting ringside at the King Of The Cage Platinum fight between Ken Shamrock and Mike "The Rhino" Bourke!

Both of these MMA fighters are over 40 years old, but they were fit as horses! Well Ken Shamrock looked fitter than most of the younger fighters that competed that night. He's 46 years old and looks like he could outrun a 20 year old athlete!

But his fitness didn't help him much because The Rhino took him out in the second round. Ken had to forfeit after pulling his hamstring. Maybe it was his advanced age or pure luck but the winner was Mr. Bourke which also made him a great gift because it just happened to be his birthday as well!

The MMA community is very interesting and appealing in a way. The first thing I noticed is all the hot women walking around! The Durban ICC was crawling with hot pieces everywhere I turned! Some of them had to be swimwear models! The second thing was the guys! Most of them looked like they were having horse steroids for brekkies, lunch and supper! I definitely didn't want to step into the ring with any of them or look twice at their girlfriends!

The after party was at FTV Florida Road and I had the pleasure of meeting the champion, Mike Bourke. He is very approachable and a nice guy all around!

I will definitely be attending the next MMA cage fight. If not for the blood and violence but for the plentiful eye candy that surrounds this sport!

One Minute Of Traffic

I was stuck in traffic on my way home from gym the other day and the only thing that calmed me down was listening to some French music. Specifically the Putumayo presents Paris CD.

I had my car for a month but never got to use the CD player. This was the perfect opportunity to test it and what better way than playing some of France's best music!

Good music for stressful times!

Formula 1 Has A New Champion

Formula 1 produced their youngest champion yesterday when German Sebastian Vettel took the checkered flag at the Yas Marina Grand Prix in Abu Dhabi.

The 23 year old was sobbing with happiness and disbelief on the team radio after crossing the finish line. It was very touching and a well deserved win for him.

It was a very close race to the end of the championship coming down to the wire in the last race of the season. For Vettel to have won Fernando Alonso of Ferrari had to finish worse than 5th, which he did. Webber, Vettel's Red Bull teammate also stood a chance to take the title but he was behind Alonso the whole race so he had to settle for 3rd behind Alonso in the drivers championship.

No driver took the number 1 spot on the podium in consecutive races this season. The 2010 F1 season was the most exciting, unpredictable show ever and I am looking forward to next year's entertainment!

It is a ridiculously expensive sport but worth definitely worth all the drama and excitement!

Airtel Champions League 2010

Well another circus is about to hit this town! The Airtel Champions League is going to showcase 7 games in Durban, bringing together the some of the best T20 Cricket teams in the world and together with that all the hype of Bollywood, some sheep shearing and a few bottles of island rum!

This is a welcomed event after the soccer world cup. At least the tickets aren't ridiculously expensive the proof being that they're all sold out! The weather is much warmer now which is better than freezing your butt off at a soccer game.

I have tickets to 2 games being played in Durbs. Both are Mumbai Indians matches although I'm a Chennai Superkings fan. I just want to watch the Little Master work his magic before he goes into retirement completely.

Let the games begin!

Post World Cup Depression

Well it's over. I was really preoccupied during the whole thing that I didn't really have a chance to enjoy it.

I managed to attend three matches though. Spain vs Switzerland, Nederlands vs Slovakia and the semi Spain vs Germany.

I had some issues to deal with and I couldn't take part in all the festivities that were happening all over Durban. So my dreams of meeting beautiful foreign chicks from Spain, Argentina, Brazil and other exotic places were not realised.

You could say that I'm immune to the phenomenon called Post World Cup Depression then!

Some interesting features in WC2010 were of course Paul the Octopus! Poor Germans. And Phillip! SABC had a catch phrase "Feel it! It is here!" which due to pronunciation by most locals evolved to "Phillip! It is here!". So Phillip was born.

Who could forget the green haired Zakumi which was supposed to be a leopard but looks more like a mangy lion but won the hearts of many South African kids including that of my 2 year old niece!

I was really looking forward to seeing a barrage of goals from the likes of Wayne Rooney, Lionel Messi, Fernando Torres etc. Christiano Ronaldo managed to score a really weak goal but wasn't entertaining enough.

I did back Spain from the beginning and wasn't disappointed by their performance.

Looks like if I really want to "Feel it!" again I will have to save a fortune for Brazil 2014!

The Little Master Does It Again!

Wow! What an innings! Sachin Tendulkar doesn't stop breaking records. It was a pleasure and a privilege to watch this master demonstrate his skill against a bewildered South African team!

First he makes a century! Something he accomplishes with ease when he's in form. Then he breaks Charles Coventry's record and then becomes the first batsman in ODI history to get a double century!

If I wasn't a South African supporter I would definitely be cheering for India to win this match. But I am! Let's just say I am a Tendulkar fan then!
